🚩 The “Red Flags” Checklist: Spot a Scammer Early

Your safety is our priority, but your vigilance is the best defense. Since Nectar Matrimony does not verify individual backgrounds, keep this checklist handy during your search.

1. The Financial Red Flags (The Most Dangerous)

  • [ ] The “Emergency” Ask: They suddenly need money for a medical surgery, a family crisis, or a legal issue.

  • [ ] The “Customs/Gift” Scam: They claim to have sent you an expensive gift (iPhone, jewelry, cash) from abroad that is “stuck at Mumbai Customs” and ask you to pay a “clearance fee.”

  • [ ] The “Investment” Opportunity: They claim to be a successful businessman or crypto expert and encourage you to “invest” in a scheme they are running.

  • [ ] Salary Slips/Bank Statements: They ask for your financial documents or offer to show you theirs too early to “prove” their wealth.

2. Profile & Identity Red Flags

  • [ ] “Too Good to be True”: The profile photo looks like a professional model or a stock image. (Tip: Use Google Lens to do a reverse-image search).

  • [ ] The NRI Ghost: They claim to be living in the US, UK, or Canada but can never meet you in person or have a consistent Indian phone number.

  • [ ] Vague Career Details: They claim a prestigious job (e.g., Scientist at ISRO, Pilot, Senior Surgeon) but cannot provide a LinkedIn profile or a verifiable office address.

  • [ ] Inconsistent Stories: Their age, education, or family details change slightly every time you talk.

3. Communication Red Flags

  • [ ] The “Love Bomb”: They express deep love, commitment, and marriage plans within just 2-3 days of talking.

  • [ ] Avoiding Video Calls: They always have an excuse for why the camera isn’t working—bad internet, “strictly traditional family,” or a broken phone.

  • [ ] Urgency to Leave the Platform: They insist on moving to WhatsApp or private email immediately before you’ve had a chance to evaluate them.

  • [ ] Off-Hours Only: They only call or message at very specific, odd times (often a sign of a “call center” scam operation).

4. Meeting Red Flags

  • [ ] Private Meetings: They insist on meeting at their home, your home, or a secluded hotel room instead of a public cafe or restaurant.

  • [ ] Avoiding Family: They refuse to involve their parents or siblings even after months of talking.

  • [ ] The “Sudden Trip”: You plan a meeting in Mumbai, but they “suddenly” have to fly out for work the day before.
